Overview

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) created the Bio-pesticide Division and the “minimum-risk” pesticide category to encourage the development of alternative products to conventional active ingredients as a result of the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) of 1996. EPA/FQPA

The Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA) of 1996 basically changed the way the EPA regulates pesticides. The FQPA established a new safety standard for pesticide residues in food and emphasizes protecting the health of infants and children.

NOP/OMRI Organic Classification

The National Organic Program (NOP) is a Federal program that has developed national organic standards, while the Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) is a non-profit organization that specializes in the review of substances for use in organic production, processing and handling.
