Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

A collection of answers to the most frequently asked questions regarding EcoSMART’s products, technology, regulatory issues, etc. Should you have any further questions, please consult our E-mail Support page.

Q: Are EcoSMART Commercial products "safe" for people and animals? If they are safe, then how they can kill insects?

Yes. EcoSMART Commercial products have a unique mode of action that targets and blocks a key neurotransmitter receptor site called octopamine found in all insects, but not mammals. Octopamine regulates an insect's heart rate, movement and metabolism. By interrupting the function of octopamine, the insect's nervous system shuts down. This unique mode of action is actually patented by EcoSMART.

Q: Why don't EcoSMART Commercial products have an EPA Registration Number? What does EPA exempt mean?

Under FIFRA Sec. 25(b)(2), pesticides whose ingredients meet the criteria established in PR Notice 2000-6 are not required to be registered by the EPA and therefore do not require an EPA registration number. See www.epa.gov/PR Notices/pr2000-6.pdf

Q: What markets have the need for "green" insecticides?

Actually EcoSMART Commercial products can be used in all market segments since they are a viable alternative to conventional insecticides. However, these markets are the best targets for "green" insecticides: Schools, Government, Food Service, Health Care, Industrial and Property Management.

Q: Do EcoSMART's product cost more than conventional products?

While EcoSMART does not control pricing to the end user, we have attempted to price our products so they are cost competitive with conventional insecticides on the market.

Q: Are these products certified by a "green, third party" agency?

No. Unfortunately green "third party" agencies do not currently have a protocol for products that "kill" (i.e. Insecticides). However, EcoSMART products do work within the National Organic Program (NOP) guidelines.

Q: Can I earn LEED-EB certification points by switching to these products?

Yes, EcoSMART Commercial products meet the requirements for the low environmental impact integrated indoor pest management policy. (Credit 10.4-5 Green Cleaning: Low Environmental Impact Pest Management Policy).

Q: Can these products be used in an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program?

Yes. EcoSMART's products are a perfect fit in all IPM programs.

Q: Do EcoSMART's products have an odor?

Because we use plant essential oils in EcoSMART's products, there is a soft "botanical" fragrance that dissipates shortly after usage.
